Essential Recipes Every Man Should Know for Cooking at Home

This little book is an excellent guidebook for the guy who wants to be self sufficient in the kitchen, but doesn't know where to start. Contains a list of essential kitchen utensils, appliances, dishes, and cookware, so even if you have nothing but this book, it'll get you to the next level. Kinda short on recipes, but good variety of basic dishes.My extended work hours have resulted in SO having to cook more often...but with a quite limited repertoire! Standard cookbooks didn't appeal, but this is written from a man's perspective. Very much for the beginning cook, it really does contain recipes that everyone should know how to prepare - and quite clear, concise directions on how to prepare them! No glossy photo's to intimidate - at best, little drawings to assist in prep steps. (like cutting up a chicken).What originally appealed is now a small problem - it's size! Small enough to fit in your pocket (great for carrying to the grocery store instead of a list) it is hard to read while actually preparing the food! Interestingly, this does not seem to bother my husband as much as I....and as it's a book for Men, perhaps it is an unfair criticism.Definitely recommend!I ordered three of these - one each for two of my brothers and one for my husband. These are really fun cookbooks! I only gave 4 stars because, in this case, size matters. While this is a GREAT compact book, it is a little small, even for me (and I don't mind small print). If you have a recipient who needs larger print, this is not the book for them. However, small size aside, this cookbook is full of wonderful recipes that are right up a man's alley. There are even a few recipes I am interested in trying myself! This is not for brand new cooks, but it's not filled with recipes that are too difficult for the occassional cook. I would highly recommend getting this for the man in your life! It's a quirky, fun book filled with great recipes that are sure to please.Binding quality could be improved but overall this is a decent little book. The recipes are casual, common, simple; I didn't notice anything that required "special" ingredients to prepare. Purchased as part of a white elephant gift, my SIL ended up with it but everyone thought it was pretty cute and practical.Before reading this book, I thought microwaved hot dogs were the gourmet way to a woman's heart: boy was I wrong! Men, listen up, this book has everything you need to know to turn a saucy dinner into a saucy night. I use to think nothing could be better than IHOP and Denny's, but now I see that nothing can be better than home cooked chocolate chip pancakes. And I used to think it couldn't get better than Burger King until I followed the hamburger recipe in this book. Two works: WOWIE ZOWIE! After using this book, my wife cannot get enough of my spaghetti and meatballs, followed with a milkshake for dessert.When I open my package I was shocked in a good way on how cute this pocket type book was. My nineteen-year-old will truly enjoy it and my forty-three-year-old husband was jealous that I didn't get him one. I would just like to have one to put in the bathroom for people to read it is too darn cute with size and it being a hard back. The recipes inside are also very nice and very doable for anyoneI just received my book the other day and was so excited to see how perfect it was for my husband. He recently showed a hint of interest in the kitchen and I was not about to let the opportunity slide. This book is exactly what he needed - it is pocket sized, black, and not frilly at all. The recipes are not intimidating and are all the kinds of things that my husband loves to eat. He actually made us the pan-fried steak and bacon mashed potatoes from it last night (even doing his own grocery shopping for it) and was so proud of himself (and it was really good)!! Love it! And what guy could resist bacon with brownies... or beer in chili? Oh, and make sure not to miss the Introduction page...hysterical.I have known my way around a kitchen for quite some time now. Being the oldest of three, I was a fall back cook when mom and dad had there hands full with my siblings, work or other household things. Even though I already know a few things about cooking and have tweaked a recipe or two, I enjoyed reading through some of the recipes the author considers to be essential to a male's cooking repertoire. All in all, this is really good for someone, women included, to have if they have little to no cooking experience.Tiny and full of American crap. Pointless.My son is not a great cook, at 16 it's hard to get him away from his computer, but, he loves meat and as the book says, men like to cook with meat, fire and a weapon! right up his street. Small, black and manly with recipes that even my son may attempt! very pleased!Arrived in good time, packaged well. Nice little book, bought as a present with other items that haven't arrived yet although this was expected to be delivered after the other items. Small and pocket sized but appears to have lots of useful ideas and recipes inside.I bought this as a gift for a guy moving into his own place for the first time. He loved it.A good mix of easy recipes ranging to more adventurous stuff but all very tempting.Well written, easy to understand and a must for weaning guys away from microwaveable dinners for one!The book was much smaller than expected and to be honest the recipes were basic. Nothing like other cook books designed for men - there are much better ones out their to encourage your man (or dad in my case) to cook.
